Gus Blues breaker

At amz I saw you are making a pcb for the blues breaker. There are a few things that I would change if I was to build one. They are the mods that I have done to 2 pedals already.

Pray tell!
The boardfile, for all those who have WinBoard, is for now posted at

use the 4.7k and 3.3k and 10pf on the 1st 1/2 of the opamp.

instead of the 2).22uf and 2)4.7k between the opamp sections use .1u and a 10k or for more gain .22 and 4.7k(change bypass)

change the bypass to the R.G. style with led and fet (two diodes? R.G.)

change the 6.8k in the 2nd feedback loop to a 10k trim pot adjust to taste

increase the 220k up to a 1meg for more gain
change ICs, caps, diodes etc to taste

Stock the pedal sounds good as a mild overdrive a little harsh because of the # of stock ceramic caps used.

IMHO this is a great design to learn how to "voice" a pedal.

Thanx!
Ceramic caps? Yuck. I was thinking of good Poly´s, Mylar...
I have quite a bundle of diodes, though I think 4149´s might very well work fine (I even have these huge industrial triangular blocks-never tried em though)
We´ll see..

Re: Blues breaker
The first half of the Marshall Shredmaster is vaguely similar to the Bluesbreaker, and has 3.3k/47nF, 100k/100pF gain, and 2x4.7k/680k (with a 47pF anti-feedback cap). The pair of single 1n148's goes from pin 7 to +4.5v, not from 6 to 7. After that the Shredmaster has bass/treble control, opamp gain 60, mid "contour" control and output buffer.

So you could convert your Bluesbreaker to a Shredbreaker, or convert your Shredmaster to a Bluesmaster. Or not.

My breadboard bluesbraker has been in use for nearly 2 weeks, and will probably end up in a box. I use 4.7/3.3k resistors with .02uF caps, and find it fairly amp-like. Thanks for the schematic Gus!

(According to the schematic I have, I don't have a shredmaster).

Oh, on the Shredmaster there is a 100nF cap and a 10k resistor between pin 7 and the clipping diodes. You have to have the blocking cap, or one of the diodes will be on all the time. I should have said that the first time, sorry.

Could you perhaps translate this into a schematic? I´m especially interested in the tone/contour section. Thanx!
