EF86-based Tube OD Based on some discussion over in the AMP-DIY forum, I'm thinking a two-stage, EF86-based OD might be cool. All I have is the idea, though. |

Well, instead of using tow ef86 stages, why not a 12AX7 followed by the penthode. This way you have somewhat more gain to work with, and you might even be able to mix triode/penthode distortion. Sounds cool, anyway... Hereīs a very quick sketch of what may be a layout... Maybe something like this?
Not that I really know what Iīm doing... ;-p |

Is the EF86 in that schem. really acting as a pentode since the screen and suppressor grids are tied to the same potential? I am kicking around the idea of beginning yet another project to build a tube stomp box using an ef86, so I'm definetly interested in this thread. Dan |

| Mike B | Ah, yes, I drew it in as a triode. Sorry bout that. Lemme see, g3 to cathode, g2 bias... This should be in the right ballpark. http://www.oli.tudelft.nl/burgundy/effects/td/img/ef86dst.gif Ideas anyone? |

What about running the 12AX7 in parallel. It would have a lower impedanece to drive the EF86 harder right? I don't really know what i am doing either, but I put an EF86 in my last amp, and the sound is amazing. The sound is a little fuzzier than a 'AX7. |
