Does anyone happen to have the schematic for this unit?. Any good things to be said about it?
Thanks

Craig Anderton's article w/schematic describing how to build the SIAB appeared in the Feb. '93 issue of Guitar Player Magazine.

http://www.paia.com/" TARGET="_top">PAiA has the http://www.paia.com/tubehsch.gif" TARGET="_top">TubeHead schematic online, which is very similar, but it lacks the output filtering of the SIAB and is set up for line-level input rather than guitar.

Jack Orman has some http://members.aol.com/jorman3/siab.html" TARGET="_top">comments on building and modifying the SIAB on http://members.aol.com/jorman/index.html" TARGET="_top">DMZ.

The unit wasn't too bad. My friend bought one used. It had already been assembled by someone.

I had an old stereo laying around that I wasn't using anymore. The stereo had one of those do it all POWER AMP IC's. I think it was 50W a side.
Anyhow, I hooked my friends Stack In A Box up to the power amp and ran two sets of speakers off of it and it had a real nice sound to it.

Sounded great with a cd-player running through it. :)

As for guitar.. I wasn't too crazy about it.
The speaker/cabinet emulation kind of sucked. The distortion could have sounded better.

It only used one 12AX7 and I think it had a few operational amplifier ic's in it as well.

I guess it could be "OKAY" for direct recording.

Maybe playing around with some of the values might give it a better tone.

I wouldn't buy one. I don't know how PAIA's Tube Mic Pre-amps sound. I wouldn't mind having one of those.

Later.

Adam I agree with you on the s.a.b. I built the paia kit and get a better tone with a amp and mic set up .I want to try a compresser on it ,I think thats what it needs.h.y.s.

I have the magic combo of scanner + schematic at home. I'll see what I can whip up over the next few days. Look for a largish GIF-file in your mail.
