Boss Slow Gear
I grabbed the schematics for the Slow Gear.

I was wondering if anybody had gotten it to work from the schematic on lepper's. Does it do a good job as a reverse tape simulator.

Could a 2SC1815 transistor be substituted with a general purpose NPN like a 2N3904 because I don't feel like getting an NTE replacement.

Thanks,

I drew that one up. I got mine to work OK. It's a bit more like messing with your guitar volume control or a volume pot than a true backwards tape effect, because it's VERY hard to electronically simulate the reverse-time version of the exponential decay of a note.

It does a good enough job if you learn to adapt your playing style to it. I'm not very good with mine, but my friend the REAL guitarist can make some sweet sounds with it.

2SC1815 works just fine. Be aware that the 1815 has a different pinout than most US style to-92 transistors. It's BCE, not CBE like the 3904.

Almost any moderately high gain NPN works OK.
