The Demise of Performer's Audio
I just read that the magazine, Performer's Audio will cease publication after the
upcoming third issue. For those of your who are interested, the three issues
can be bought for $3.95 each from Audio Amatuer Corporation, PO Box 876,
Peterborough, NH 03458-0876
(603) 924-9464

Performer's audio is (was) a magazine dedicated to do-it-yourself projects for
musicians. The content's of the second issue are:

- Guitar Amp Refinements by Dan Coyle
- Build a Heptode 60 watt Guitar Amp by Rickard Berglund
- On-stage Monitors (DIY project) by Bill Fitzmaurice
- Two by Two by Two (DIY PA columns) by Paul Stamler
- Basic Live-Sound Mixer Concepts by Benjamin Tomassetti
- "SHHH:" A Noise Reduction Add-On by Bill Fitzmaurice
- Build a Low-Distortion Compressor by Rickard Berglund
- An AC Adapter for Stomp Boxes by Mark Amundson
- Performance Loudspeakers 101, Part I by Bill Fitzmaurice
and a column by Dan Torres called "Amp Tips n' Tricks"

Get 'em before they go the way of Electro-notes and Polyphony!

Pity. I picked up issue 2, and was looking forward to the next one. It struck me that the mag was a little too ambitious, given the actual size of its intended market, and the quality of the publication (glossy paper and all). Some of the material pertinent to this group will probably still continue to show up in Vintage Guitar magazine, and Glass Audio (the people behind PA). Who knows, maybe Guitar Shop magazine can find its way to incorporating something more technical and DIY-oriented than equipment reviews.

For me, issue one was adequate, but lacking a
good scratch built diy electronic project. Issue
two was great and my sneak preview of issue
should be better yet. Issue three rolls off the
presses on May 2nd. I think issues two and
three are great even without my article
submissions.

Now I have another completed article without
a home.

Mark, the electronics articles in VG all seem to consist of two paragraphs of info and six of disclaimer. That format has been less than satisfying, to say the least. Add to that Seymour Duncan's monthly grocery list and I think I'm safe in saying that we will not be seeing any terribly detailed or informative or innovative articles in VG about music electronics. The CD reviews at this point are the only thing worth reading IMHO (besides the ads, of course.)

Wow. Now I have to flame MYSELF! (I was the anonymous poster who dissed VG's tech articles.)
I just picked up my copy of the issue before last (Aerosmith on the cover, I had flung it in the magazine bin 'cause I had no time to check it out last month) and both Torres' and Funk's articles were actually quite good. Whoever said VG sucked was a total ass - oops, that was me!
