Re: Bookmark this sucker! Richie: from 4/27/99: The link with tons of Fender schematics and info is http://www.zen.org/~ware/ffg/ffg.html If this don't get you there, try a search for Fender Amp Field Guide.. everyone should have this bookmarked! [Richie] Yep, you certainly did post it first! BTW did you notice that the GIF files are actually residing on a Geo-Cities site? A very creative use of the free space they offer, without subjecting viewers to an endless barrage of the Geo-pop-ups! (I may move some of my files over there just to free up some space on my regular site.) Steve Ahola P.S. Actually there was an Eddy who posted a similar link on 2/27/99... but he didn't include his e-mail address so I can't send him the prize! |

Re: Anybody wanna swap bookmarks? If anybody wants to zip up their bookmarks file and e-mail them to me, I can add them to my site in a new section. At least for Netscape, your bookmarks file is a regular HTML file, named: bookmark.htm. It is normally buried deep within your Netscape directory but you can use the "Find" tool (on your Start menu or on the menu bar of Explorer) to locate it on your hard drive. They recommend that you don't manually edit the "bookmark.htm" file maintained by NS, but you can copy it to a different directory to edit it with whatever HTML editor you may use. (Or if you want, I can edit them for you- like deleting all of the sites that don't look like music or electronics or whatever.) Well, if anybody is interested, let me know! Steve Ahola |

Re: Bookmark this sucker! Steve,
Please refrain from using your Personal Home Page ... for the following activities: --tboy | |

tboy: Thanks for the heads-up! I decided to check and thought I'd post the full text to #7 and #8: 7.Developing restricted or password-only access pages, or hidden pages or images (those not linked to from another accessible page); 8.Using your home page (or directory) as storage for remote loading or as a door or signpost to another home page, whether inside or beyond GeoCities; Well, I believe that I would be technically in the right if the files uploaded to GeoCities were accessible from one of their pages. As for "remote loading", isn't that exactly what happens anytime someone clicks on a link here at AMPAGE (or any other site)- a page from a remote server is loaded? Isn't the idea of hyperlinks what the World Wide Web is all about? I'd hate to see the day when links are restricted to the home directory only since a link to a specific file can save others a lot of time in finding something. But I'm glad that you brought the point up. If they want to kick you out because of complaints, they certainly will. To get technical about paragraph #7, a Geo-Citizen could be evicted simply because of broken links on his site (like mispelling the filename being accessed). Taken in the full context of the article, GeoCities' primary prohibitions are nudity (spelled out very graphically in the article) and hate sites. BTW the "hidden pages" idea was first mentioned in the section on hate sites. And the "remote loading" issue was also mentioned in the FAQ in regards to someone signing up for multiple sites to build a home page larger than the allotted 11 megs. So I don't believe that the Fender Field Guide is very high on their list of priorities in regards to inappropriate use of their homepages. Thanks! Steve Ahola P.S. Another issue worth mentioning involves copyrights. Their stated policy is to basically ignore any complaints about copyright infringement except from the party who actually owns or possesses those rights. I believe that is a decent policy that discourages snitching on your Geo-Neighbors. |

Very persuasive, Steve. I think you might have convinced me, though I'm not quite sure of what. --tboy |

tboy: I moved some of my ZIP files of shareware programs over to GeoCities and linked them to one of my pages there. That freed up about 4 megs on my regular site. I'll let you know if the Geo-Police bust me! Steve Ahola |
