Hamfests/tron shops in San Francisco
Hey y'all,
I'm kind of a country bumkin and a mountain man, but I'm heading to San Francisco for the weekend. Any advice on good shops to find used equipment there? Also, anyone know any links to hamfest info in SF, or nearby? Any gatherings this week?
Thanks
Slim

Speaking of Hamfests.....
How do you find them? I'm in El Paso, TX.

Look up the ARRL website and they have a listing there for conventions and fests. I have set up a table to sell my stuff for the past couple of years and you can find some real bargains and real hunters too. I picked up a bunch of Ac outlets at the last one that are perfect for the back of Fenders....

Dave Stork wrote some great material on hamfests, including the URL of their WWW site for all national and canadian fests.

Hamfests in SF? You'd have better luck down in San Jose. As for used junk, across the Bay next to the Oakland Airport is Mike Quinn's Electronic Surplus. (Twenty years ago they were HUGE and were handling the parts for Bill Godbout [home computers and Craig Anderton projects]. They have since moved from an full-sized airplane hangar to a cheap rollup.) Picking through the bins I got about 100 mica caps for about $5.00!

P.S. Be sure to bring along whatever you need to test out the junk that they have. Most of the stuff is from computer firms in Silicon Valley...
