Drawing/Spice packages
I've decided I ought to start designing my own amp, and maybe some effects.

I'd really appreciate any advice on drawing packages and spice packages. Shareware or freeware would be preferable, but I don't mind spending some money if it's going to be worthwhile.

Can anyone recommend packages for doing this sort of thing? Anything that can model tube circuits would be a great advantage. I've already got a real simple nodal analysis package, but I want something a bit more comprehensive.

If there's anything out there that can draw a circuit and then analyse frequency response, etc. I'd be really pleased to hear about it.

Thanks

Liam

Liam,

At www.orcad.com you can find some nice things. And if you don't want long download-time you can order their evaluation-cd.
I tried to model my Chieftain but there is a limit on the evaluation-cd, so I had to split it two models. Otherwise I think it's a real powerful tool.

Liam,
I use Electronic Workbench 5.0. It has a real nice interface (very intuitive, it is something like an electronic breadboard). I can apply my coice of power to the circuit, it also has simulated test equipment such as DMM, scope, sig generator, freq counter and more. It also does autorouting, ther is also a layout package that interfaces with it, I don't have it. I just got my hands on it about a month ago, so this is my only experience with with this type of software.

The CircuitMaker 6 demo is fully functional for 45 Days. I purchased CM5 and have been very pleased with it. I originally had Electronics Workbench 4.0 but there was no symbol editor so I sent it back. It was great other than that. I don't know if they included one with the new version.

Here's the site for CM6

If you get SuSE Linux 6.0, it's got a free copy of Spice and Spicecad, plus Arcad and the free StarOffice will import, edit and export native Autocad files.I haven't tried Spice yet, but Spice tube models are certainly available on the internet, try:

There's also a buttload of science software
with SuSE I haven't even touched yet.

Yeah, Linux means repartitioning with
FIPS, but Linux+KDE is like tube amps, once
you've dug it, you probably won't go back to Windoze.Scary, I know, but it grows on you.
