Re: Update: "press enter to reload"

Concerning the deletion of previous posts, I actually thought you were joking when you posted about that in the suggestion box. :)
The idea kind of strikes me like a can of worms waiting to explode, But I will give it some more thought

The "Delete Message" option is the only thing I miss here at AMPAGE compared to the old-fashioned dial-up BBS's. But when you logged on with your password the host knew who you were so that you couldn't delete messages from other users. Unless you added some high-tech security features, the issue of "counterfeit cookies" could arise and would-be imposters could reverse-engineer their own cookie file to pose as another user to be able to delete that person's posts. Definitely a can of worms (or at least a can of counterfeit cookie dough).

Your "Preview Message" feature gives us one last chance to review our message before hitting the irrevocable "Post" button, and that's a lot better than anything else I've seen on the Web...

P.S. In the horizontal windows mode last night, at one point I was unable to post a reply two times- it would just preview the message. I think I had resized the box to 60 x 8 if that makes any difference, but then again a few other times it worked just fine. Also, resizing the box evidentally clears anything already typed... Oh well, I need practise typing anyway.

Oops, my fault! I sorta forgot that some of the guys might actually be using the experimental version; maybe I should post a warning when I'm actively hacking on it. The 'change box size' thing is in mid-hack and isn't fully functional yet. That's why it will only give the preview.

The experimental version is working again, and form data is now retained after resizing the box.

I don't mind the extra step to get back after posting a message, because I'm occasionally a double-post offender. But what I hate is that it doesn't take you back to where you were on the list, and my network is rather slow reloading the entire list each time. Then I have to scroll down to find my place again.

Any chance you could get this intermediate step between Post & Back, but not go through an entire refresh?

Let me see if I understand what you mean, Doc.
Would you want the process to stop when it reaches the 'thank-you' screen after a post, so you could then click your 'back' button until you get back to the original message list as it was before the post?

I don't mind an intermediate step after "post message", but I'd like to return to the list in the same spot I was before I decided to post a reply. Can I get back there without going through an entire "refresh"? This takes too long on my machine (we have networked MS Internet Explorer), and if I try to read a message before the entire loading, the loading stops there and I don't get the complete list refreshed.

I'm almost illiterate when it comes to computor system terms & workings. I always hated to do programming, so I kind of lagged behind picking this stuff up. Since the advent of internet, I use the computer much more, and am slowly learning. So if I don't quite understand what's possible, or practical, you'll know why.

I think I've got the picture, Doc.

With the most recent update, you can choose how the BBS behaves after a post. To prevent the refresh after posting, just leave the 'refresh after post' box unchecked.

When the 'thank you' screen appears after posting, hit your browser's 'back' button twice, and you should end up back in the message list at the point where you were before the post.

This won't work unless you have allowed the message list to load completely before posting, and of course you won't see your new message until you actually do refresh the list.

You can always refresh the list as needed with the 'enter' button in the BBS control panel.
