That's ok, John; it can only help to get it from more than one perspective. :)

BTW, Is this entry-level HTML mark-up? It's a bit like the old type-setting markup for print media.

Exactly! Some people equate it to old wordperfect or for the really old, wordstar.

If you have your own webpage you can show graphics by pointing to your own location.

Kind of like this:
<IMG SRC = "http://www.cyberverse.com/~jandrox/images/od_grn.jpg" height=240 width=320>

http://www.cyberverse.com/~jandrox/images/od_grn.jpg" height=240 width=320>

substitute the image with your own line drawings. They just need to be in either gif or jpg format.

p.s. for those who know, try scrmr+.html it's still in process....

Step 1:

highlight the text in the column you are resonding to that you want to include.

Step 2:

Enter <CTRL>insert

Step 3:

Click in the editor window and enter <SHIFT>insert.

Step 4: (optional)

delete all the carriage returns at the end of partial lines so the text all flows (per paragraph) in one continuous line. IOW use the autowrap of the window.

Step 5:

Type: <I><FONT COLOR="#0000FF">

In front of the included text.

Type: </I></FONT>

After the included text.

Step 6:

Click on the "Preview Message" bar to see if you got it right. After previewing, select 'back' inside the frame to get back to the editor.

The '<I>' turns on italics.

The '<FONT COLOR="#0000FF">' sets the color (RRGGBB) where each digit is a value in HEX.

The '</I>' ends the italics.

The '</FONT>' ends the color change.

Hope this helps..

I checked out ZDNet last night looking for some shareware programs that will let you use keyboard macros in Win 3.1x and found several. Keyboard Express is probably the slickest one, and it has versions for both Win3.1 and Win95/NT. Unfortunately it is only a 30 day trial version and to register it will cost you $27.xx. (Some limited-time shareware programs will stop working altogether when they expire, while others just nag you a bit more or turn off some of the more advanced features. I suppose I could set my computer clock ahead 60 days and see if the program still runs...)
There is another program called KeyText which has a 30 day evaluation trial which reverts to the unregistered version after 30 days (with only 5 macros available). If you register it for $25 you get a lot more features (like 26 hot keys instead of 5).
The last decent program I found is called Shorthand for Windows and is a 30 day evaluation copy of the program which runs on both Win3.1 and Win95/NT. It costs $29 to register it for home use (only 1 pc) and it uses a copy-protection scheme so it will not work on another machine.
All of these programs can make you more productive by assigning hot keys or shortcuts to words or phrases that you type in a lot (like your name and address- or HTML tags!)
If you can't figure out how to find them at www.zdnet.com (click on "downloads" and search for "keyboard macros"), let me know.

Thanks for the research Steve.
I've saved the entire message frame, and I'll follow up your pointers when I get a chance.
I thibnk I can get into znet ok, I've had a quick look around there once before.

While we're on the subject, I just thought I'd mention that although quoting relevant portions of previous posts is fine if it adds clarity, quoting entire posts as a matter of course is strongly discouraged; the FRAMES setup makes it easy enough to redisplay a post if needed.

Amen! Have you ever checked out the BBS for Vintage Guitar magazine? Although I may have seen a few exceptions, practically every post quoted every reply all of the way back to the start of the thread. (I think the software might add that in automatically.) It's ridiculous- you might find a one word response after reading through several pages of quotes: "Yes!"

It's been awhile since I worked with Win3.11, but I remember that WilsonWindowWare's WinBatch program was able to create keyboard macros. You may also be able to use the Windows Recorder applet to do the same. It might be worth checking out ZDNet to see if they have a shareware/freeware program that allows you to assign different srings (like usernames, passwords- and HTML tags!) to different key combinations.
