Hiwatt for bass
Has anybody out there ever tried a Hiwatt head(specifically the 200watter) for bass guitar. I've never even seen a Hiwatt, but I hear the early one's are built to perfection and loud and clean!

Years ago I played a Hiwatt Custom 100 with my Fender Precision Bass. I love that amps, they are punching clean and have big dynamic. The building is the best I could imagine (on the net you can find some site with image of Hiwatt building style).
The tone controls are wide enough to play both guitar and bass. I did so and I was happy with that amp.

Some models of the Hiwatts are by my opinion the best built amps that exist. If you have ever seen inside one of these amps you'll know why.I think the page the other post was talking about is the Hiwatt/booker page, it has a picture of inside the amps, the way they build the amps, modeled after the Hiwatts.I think the link is on Harmony central. But these amps were loud and clean. There is also some pictures of Hiwatts and some archive stories about them on AMP HEAVEN page, check them out, some are for sale, along with a bunch of Orange and Marshall amps.[Richie]

Thanks guys for the opinions. Thanks Richie for the link to Amp Heaven, cool site! It seems as though the 200 watt Hiwatt monsters are very hard to find. I looked through Vintage Guitar and on the web and haven't found one yet. Even if I do find one, probably can't afford it!

I suspect that it would make an awesome bass rig.

TAP; Wow, A 200! Not too many used anywhere today, a few Marshall Majors, and a Sound City 200 I saw at a guitar show. I put this on a post before, and was wondering if anyone had seen the Hiwatt 400 ! They made one. But have only seen it in an add back in 72, it listed for 1500.00 for the head, I remember it well! You could but a strat for 269.00 So that should be a guide of how far out of reach it was for someone.I also remember seeing the Whole stack of a Sound City for 920.00 And the Marshall stack for 1200.oo I still have the old ad book stuck in a box somewhere. All I could do is drool...... Re: What about Sound City?
Thanks Richie! Cool page. What do you think about the Sound City heads? Are they comparable to Hiwatt's in build construction (ie PTP, etc?)
