Kay 703C
Hello, I've come into possession of a Kay 703C, a small guitar practice amp, 6-7" speaker and 3 tubes: 36AM3, 60FX5, 18GD6. It is cosmetically excellent, but only emits a 60 hz hum when powered. I would like to restore it to usable. It has a really strange triple capacitor, appaarently 3 caps in one fiber tube. I've read about replacing the caps, but can anyone suggest a source for these tubes?

If I can't find the parts, I am thinking of rebuilding a NEW tube amp with available tubes into the same chassis. Can anyone suggest a schematic for a very simple amp of 2-4 tubes, 10-15 watts, volume and tone to build into this frame?

Worst case I shove a small SS amp in the frame and leave the tubes hanging there for ambience.

Thanks for the help.

This is a multi-section electrolytic, and it's common in table radios. You can get a suitable replacement (cap values may be slightly different, but will work) and any of these tubes from Antique Electronic Supply in Tempe, Arizona. Your amp's three tubes have their heaters strung in series, adding up to nominal AC line voltage.

There's a few simple tube amp projects that would be worth checking out. Go to the other parts of this BBS, Guitar Amps General and Guitar Amps DIY. There have been some recent posts regarding that.

Terrific, thanks for the help. I will contact these folks and get the goodies on the way in. I was most concerned about changing the amp from stock, but kinda looking forward possibly building a new amp in the frame.
