Re: What bias current Bruce, Someone (not me, I'm computer illiterate) should post a page on power testing amps. I was pretty lucky to meet an ex-Marshall engineer who explained how they tested amps. (interestingly he left Marshall over the matter of being asked to help develop the then prototype Valvestate amps.) It's a pretty quick way of checking an amp is doing roughly what it ought to. EG: my last Marshall 100MV only made 65 watts when I bought it. I ran it for about 30 gigs without noticing any fault, but after power testing found there was a bad modification (not mine) to the phase splitter/inverter. It now makes 120 rms and is far too loud! |
