Varying Harmonics?
I was looking over an Ampeg catalog (making out my Christmas wishlist) when I came across a series of amplifiers called "varying harmonic". What the heck is that?

Also what does "bridged" mean?

And finally, their SVT2-Pro amp is 300 watts all tube, with 6 x GE6550. Are 6550s really a 50 watt tube?

Thanks.

Sorry I can't answer your question about the varying harmonic feature.

"Bridged" usually refers to the paralleling of two identical stereo amp outputs to achieve a higher mono output power.

Believe it or not, the (real) 6550 and the (real) KT88 are rated for 100w rms audio power output under certain operating conditions. The GE manual lists the 6550A in PP AB1, using 600v on the plate, 300v on the screen, -32.5v grid bias, 100ma idling current with a maximum swing to 270ma, producing 100w@ 3% THD. You need a pretty hefty power supply with good regulation to run 6 of these tubes, 810ma!
