Running 6V6's and 6L6's
I am intrigued with O'Conner's idea of mixing two 6L6's and two 6V6's in a four output tube amp. He mentions that as long as the plate voltage is below 450v (and assuming of course that the bias voltage circuit is modified accordingly) that this can be done.

Any thoughts of the subject? Has anyone out there tried this arrangement?

O'Connor says that this can be done, and defended that he does it all the time in a flame fest over on alt.guitar.amps. The flame fest incented at least one guy to try it with some sovtek 6V6's and they died ignoble deaths, by his report.

6V6's were never meant for the kind of use that they're put to in guitar amps. I'd say that this practice is cautionary, and you should consider the possiblity that tubes put to this use may well melt down and die; take the proper precautions to avoid taking the power transformer and output transformer with them. It MIGHT work, depends on the conditions. By all means experiment, but take into account what might happen if the experiment fails.

I suppose one could make it work, but I imagine there would be a rather elaborate bias supply.
