Try putting a dummy load on that Bassman. Commercial versions are made by Marshall, THD and others. This will keep your Bassman output from getting hosed.

The way your running your rig doesn't sound like  
a "preamp" setup. But whatever gets you a tone  
is O.K. You posted in reply to another answer "If  
the the power tubes were blown, I wouldn't get a  
sound." This is not true. And its important that  
you know it before it costs you an amp. The slave  
out on the amp and whatever sound you get from  
any inputs while plugged into one of the others  
is prior to the power tubes. Even if your not  
using the power amp section of your amp, it must  
have some kind of a load plugged into the speaker  
mains. The way your plugged in you would still  
get sound even if the power tubes were melting in  
the sockets. And while the sound would be very  
impressive, it would only do it once.
