It's finally done! This weekend (Sunday night around 11:30) I finally finished the wiring on my amp project. The last mod was to add a tube buffered effects loop (The one from "Kurt's Amps" found on Steve Ahola's site. Used a 6SN7 in place of the 12AU7.). The story on this amp is it started out as a late 50's, early 60's mono power amp made by "Sargent Rayment" that I found in someone's trash. It was a real mess. First I restored the amp, then decided (inspired by this website!) to turn it into a guitar amp. I found the amp in Jan 1998, so this project has been going on for a long time and taken lots of twists and turns. I added a black face preamp, and eventually ended up rewiring the PI and power section and fought the Battle of the Hum. At this point, the only components left from the original amp are the chassis, sockets, fuse holder, transformers, and two resistors. Everything else has been replaced or added! It's a point-to-point wired mess underneath. Lots of stuff crammed into a small chassis (7x13). Overall I'm very pleased with the sound of the amp. In many ways it is it's own beast, but it uses parts of various Fender circuits. I'll draw up the final schematic and submit it to Tboy with some before and after pictures. Thanks for all the help I've received here over the past year or so. I could not have built this amp without AMPAGE! Now, to make a cabinet for the thing! Steve Jones |

Congratulations! Isn't great to fire the thing up and have it WORK? And when people ask about the make, you can say "I built it!" Cool. Dave James JMP P.S. anticipating the pics - how about some sound bites? |

It sure is. It's actually worked for sometime, but had various problems. What's great is to fire it up now and have it work well, with all the problems ironed out. I may redo the master volume control someday and go back to a post PI MV, but for now I'll leave it alone and enjoy playing through it. The pics should be at least amusing! As far as sound bites, I'll have to see if I can figure out a way to record those. Someone here at work should know how to do that. Steve |
