star ground-insulated input jack
My current project will be constructed with a star ground and I was wondering if anyone has had experience using the nylon shoulder washers from mouser. I guess my main question is will a standard closed tip 12A switchcraft jack still work or do I need the longer L-12A jack?
Any thoughts?
Thanks,
jason

Those nylon insulating washers come highly recommended from many amp builders.

Since the nylon is somewhat compressible and has a better friction coefficient against the chassis, vs. metal to metal, you can get away without the usual toothed lockwasher. That should make up for the extra nonmetallic washer thickness, allowing you to use the standard length jack threads.

Any of you guys have contradictory experience? I certainly don't know everything.

I use the standard MOUSER shouldered fibre washer in my .080" chassis Wayne.
Using a normal #12a Switchcraft jack from New Sensor, I've had NO trouble with anything yet.

I prefer the fibre washers since they don't come loose as easily as the nylon ones. Its still a problem, though, as they all seem to loosen up after a time. Many amps that come into my shop originally fitted with these washers are missing them. A dab of super glue at the time of installation seems to help.

Or any goop - like maybe black caulk or RTV.
