Bedrock questions (please read) I'm building a Vox ac30 clone/project and have the transformers from a Bedrock Series 600 (I believe). The amp originally had 4-EL84's and 3 or 4 12ax7's. Anyone know if these transformers would be worth using till I can come up with better????? Anyone know where I can get a schematic for this amp???? |

Or better yet, would this transformer be suitable for a 4 6V6 output????? |

Tony, Never seen a Bedrock schematic, either on the web or in the Tube Amp Book, but they must exist somewhere (?)... ... as for the iron, I'm sure the OT will be in the ballpark for a quad of 6V6's, but the PT might be kickin' out a bit more VAC than the 6V6's would like to see. If you can get in there and measure it, look for around 650 - 700 VAC max across the HT leads, assuming capacitive input filtering will be used. If the measurement is above 700 VAC, then you could consider either choke input filtering, or use the old zener diodes on the CT of the PT trick. I'd be tempted to use what I had for sure... ... Tony; I believe most of the Bedrocks were EL34 based but that's to say that they didn't make a EL84 based amp either. Bedrocks were made in the New England states and I believe it was actually New Hampshire. I've NEVER seen a schematic for these babys and I've been LOOKING because I want to get my hands on one myself! I used to live in NH in 1990-1991 and I was at Joe Perry's house on Lake Winipasakee & at the time he was an endorsee of the Bedrock amps. They sounded pretty damn good but I haven't seen one since. If I find a phone number I'll let you know!! Trace |

I'm pretty sure Bedrock is out of business. I never heard one of their amps but I recall that everytime GP mag had an amp shootout, there was some problem with the Bedrock model and the owner was always making some lame excuse. Sounded like they had a real quality problem. |

Tony; And some others that might want bedrock info. If you look on the Hoffman amp page under amp parts, then click on to board parts, scroll to the bottom of the page, you will see Bedrock chassis, he bought them out for the chassis. You may be able to contact him and see if he has schematics,or someone you could talk to get them. [Richie] |

Just want to add Bedrock had some good sounding amps but their quality was not consistent from what I've seen. They are definitely out of business but someone has bought the rights I believe and can't remember who. I believe it was another amp company... I thought it was another local (to me in Mass) Co. so I'll see if I can find out... I don't remember seeing or reading about any class A el84 Bedrock amps before but who knows???. But it was probably a class ab type like the Peaveys and such. So my guess is that you'd be pushing the transformers trying to use them in a Vox AC30 type amp. These are real power pigs, run hot, and need some pretty heavy iron. But I'll bet they'd work great for an AB1 type amp. And sound great and loud! Good luck with it, steve k |
