Fender "reverb" channel mod Just curious if anyone has removed the 3.3Meg resistor on the reverb channel side of an old Fender. What were the results???? I only ask because I read somewhere it would give you more gain. Is this true??? Care to elaborate??? |

| J Fletcher | Well you'd get lots more gain but the ratio between dry and reverb signal would be way out of whack. Your reverb would be very ineffective if you did this. |

| J Fletcher | In reference to my 1st post, I'm assuming that you are going to replace the 3m3 resistor with a jumper. If you were to just remove the resistor, you'd have rev signal only in that channel.... |

Thanks guys. I don't even use reverb so it's not a problem to lose it. BTW, you only have reverb on that one channel anyway. I think I'll remove it today and play with different values as the other poster stated. Thanks again. |

Tony, What Jerry said is right on, but the mod I've seen somewhere called for replacing the 3.3M one with a lower value, say 1M or 2.2M. That should increase gain while maintaining some sort of balance between dry and wet signals. Maybe even put a switch in there? ... Whit |

For a slightly hotter sound: You'll get a hotter sound by installing a new pot with a pull spst switch in place of the old intensity control. Breaking the line here will give you quite a few more dB of gain in the vibrato channel. But, as for the reverb section.... Look at a schematic and parts layout of the reverb section. All of the reverb parts described are in the same place on the board. Try using a 2M2 resistor and a47pF silver mica cap. Move over to the Reverb pot and follow the wiper lead to the combination grid load and series limiting 470K and 220K resistors and swap them for each other. In other words, take the old 220K grounded resitor off the grounded end eyelet and flip it to where the 470K is and vis a versa.with the 470K resistor. IMO, most Fenders have way too much reverb anyhow and can't be played with the reverb pot above 2 to 4. Change the 100K slope resistor on the tone stack to about 82K to 91K. Change the stock ceramic .001uF or .01uF phase inverter coupling cap to a good quality .0015uF/600v poly cap. Feel free to experiment with any of these resistor mods of course. The next trick is to move the normal channel into the Reverb/vibrato loop and then use both channels at the same time with a Y cord (they are in phase now) and really walk the dog! Bruce, Thanks for the ideas/experience... ... wish I had enough bench time to just keep up with what you post here! ... Whit |
