Hoffman '59 RI Bassman Board Kit
I just purchased a '59 Bassman Board Kit from Doug Hoffman (nice guy) and was wondering if anyone had any comments/experience with this kit relative to ease of installation and tone improvements over the RI Bassman. Any comments appreciated. Thanks!

Just passing on what I've heard... with a few cap changes (like a 0.022uF bass cap), the Bassman RI sounds really nice. The Bassman kits from Doug are more commonly used to get a tweed-like sound from the typical BF & SF Bassman heads (definite improvement/change in tone there!). In your case, the main advantage with the Hoffman kit is that you will have an eyelet board to make future repairs or mods much easier but I'm sure that Doug uses higher quality caps than Fender so you will get some improvement in tone. If you run into any problems just e-mail Doug and he'll probably get right back to you.

You may want to check the archives under DIY and General Amps (keyword "hoffman") to look for older posts on these kits; I think that everybody here who has tried one has been pleased with it.
