tone control pots?

arthur norris tone control pots?
Are all three pots in a 3-band tone control
logarithmic? I notice that if I simulate
the response of the Marshall or Fender tone
circuits (3 band and 2 band), I can't seem
to find a setting which gives a flat response...
I assume if this is true that it is deliberate.
I'm trying to improve the tone controls of
my home-made amplifier-- any recommendations?
thanks,
art

Flat response is obtained when all controls is set to 10.

I believe you are mistaken. There is always a midrange dip on a Fender amp. The only way to appeoximate flat response is midrange full up with bass & treble way down.

There is no truly flat response position on the classic Fender (and copied) tone stack. Closest to flat is set with treble and bass set to 0 and mid (if fitted) set to 10.

In tehcalssic Fender tone stack, treble and bass are BOOST only while the middle control is CUT only.

They work best for me with the bass and treb pots log and the mid pot lin. Also I think 250k is better than 1M for the bass pot. If you use 1M half of the pot rotation does very little.

I am going to disagree with Anders and say that flattest response is mid 10, bass 0, treb 0.

Of course, you're right. I had minimum attenuation setting in mind.

Ys, it's true that with the "Fender" type of tone control circuit, there is no flat response setting. However, this is part of the sound that we have become accustomed to hearing and isn't necessarily a negative.
