Groovy Tubes
Hi All,,Just wanted to mention an
interesting experience with some
new GT 6v6's I just bought. There
was a big red label on them warning
that they need -8 more volts bias
than normal 6v6's. And that is
exactly what they needed in my amp
to bias. But boy do these tubes
sound GREAT!!!! I've had great
results with GT's in the past but
I wasn't expecting these tubes to
sound so good. Really punchy and
responsive. I called GT to get the
scoop on these and it turns out
they are "low powered 6l6's"...
Hmmm, that explains the bias...
Tried to buy some more but they
are not offering them any more.
Isn't that typical?? Now they
are trying to sell me American
NOS 6v6's for $70. (list) a pair.
I don't think so...

I'm pretty shure those are just sovtek 6L's
They were selling those as 6V6 replacement tubes.
As far as I'm concerned GT is just over priced hype!

Hi Steve,, I agree they are
overpriced and much hype but
for quite sometime, they were
the only game in town so I kind
of got used to them. Now there
are many more choices mailorder
but not local. I've been buying
tubes for guitar amps for almost
30 years so have seen the ups
and downs. The failure rate out
of the box in my experience has
been none with groove tubes and
that is the only brand I can
say that for. And they have
definitely lasted slightly longer
than any other brand of tube I've
used except Mullard. I know the
GT process and some think its BS
and some think its PR but in my
experience there IS something of
value gotten back from that higher
price...

Hey, have any of you guys heard the rumor that GT bought up a bunch of idle tube manufacturing tooling from RCA or Sylvania or somebody and are planning on opening a tube factory in the US? Any truth to this? Man, I'll bet THOSE tubes will be pricey - but maybe worth it???

I've heard this also.
GT is offering a 6L6GC "1956" RCA copy I believe.
These are expensive as HELL!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think he wants $275. for a quartet!!!!!!!!!!!!!
At those prices you could find a quartet of premium NOS "blackplate"6L6GC's.
I'm still real skeptical of GT tubes!!!!!!!!!!
I'm a BIG fan of the GE 6L6GC's.
I like them more than the RCA "blackplates".
Everyone has there own Holy Grail tube tone anyway.
Good luck all!!!!!!!!!!!
