Input voltage for 6v6, and FX loop suggestions?
I wonder what range the input voltage for a 6V6 should be in a class A, single ended design? The reason I'm asking this is because I am building a guitar amp and I would like to know if I can add an FX loop by simply cutting the signal path right before the power tube and put a series loop there in between... is this a Bad Idea (tm)?

I don't want to put in an extra tube just to recover the loop return, I'm already using 3 preamp tubes (12AX7) and I'm planning on using an opamp to drive the FX loop (since the effects are usually SS anyway).

Has anyone anything to say about series/parallel loops? Is a parallel loop something to consider building? Or should I stick to a series?

The preamp is already built and I'm working on the power stage and loop circuitry for now so I'd rather not change any of the preamp design...

Thanks for any input on this subject!!

Best regards,
Richard

Re: Input voltage for 6v6, and FX loop suggestions
Hi Richard,,, Go for the parallel
loop as it is much more versatile and
keeps the original signal so much
more purer. Personally, I can't
stand series loops as they always
seem to muck with the tone and sound
levels of the original signal. Since
usually you'd want no more than say
50% tops of the wet signal, the best
way to assure that, and not have to
count on your effects box doing it,
is to use a parallel loop. You won't
be disappointed...
Good luck with it,,

How about putting the parallel FX loops
right in front of the phase inverter?
It doesn't take too much voltage drive to
make the phase inverter go full output.
So the levels should be easy to control.
Most PIs can drive the finals to clipping
fairly easily. I doubt if you would loose
anything.
I think Steve's reply about the parallel
loop is a good comment.

Yeah! good point about the paralell loop, noise will be down also,Espescially if you can switch it out. -eth
