| R.G. | Re: rectifier diodes "Transformers for Electronics Circuits" by Nathan R. Grossner - probably only available in a technical library now. The basics are not that hard, but are very different from other electronics devices. |

I've removed windings from guitar pickups to clean up a muddy sound, but I wouldn't want to try it with a power transformer... For PREAMP tubes, you can lower the B+ voltage by adding another resistor and cap to the power supply. The Dan Torres Super Texan mod lowers the B+ to the overdrive channel preamp tubes by using a 10k/1 watt resistor, with a 22uf/500 electrolytic cap going to ground from the output of the resistor. I'm not sure if a similar trick could be done to lower the voltage going into the power tubes because of the higher power levels involved. Does anybody here know a quick and dirty way to add a Mesa Boogie-style "Tweed Power" circuit to a typical Fender amp? |

Re: TWEED POWER I got my hands on a Dual Rectifier schematic just the other day. The primary of the power trans has a tap on it that the switch moves the hot lead too. Since I don't have one of these amps I can't make any voltage checks, but it looks like this also affects the heaters and the bias. |

So it's like they use a multivoltage power xfmr and run the 120v supply into what would normally be a 150 or 160v input. No easy way to add that to an existing amp; It'd probably be cheaper to just make a Variac... |

| R.G. | Re: rectifier diodes Have you considered just using a power zener to drop some voltage off the DC side? |
