Capacitance change is measureable. Wait for it too cool of course. The reason to pot is that amps don't have remote control. You have to walk up to adjust levels and suddenly 'shreeeeeAEEEEAAAAAHHHHEEEHHH', you just don't look very cool at all. Don't know if POD's straight into a PA have much of a problem with microphonics, anyone?
