I wouldn't go that far myself, but yeah I found them kind of limited in their personality, compared to what I like. Great if you can never stand to turn off your Tube Screamer, but seemingly hard-pressed to take on other voices. I don't know if that was a function of the side-by-side design (they were a pair of 3-pole "yin-yang" coils that snuggled together into a Strat cover in series), the polepieces (don't know the composition but a little bigger diameter than usual, between Fender and Schecter width, and a kind of dull greyish appearance), or the coils themselves. Despite their weaknesses in terms of "tonal scope", they did manage to provide some of the sounds of a true cingle coil (one pickup at a time) without hum.
