Hummer	Re: how to determine insulation wire thickness Resistance per 1000 feet of wire will give the the OD of the copper very accurately. Subtract from the overall OD and....voila!!     OD=Outside diameter.     Further micromesh sandpaper and a microscope will get you to withing 0.0001inch...close even for a six string.
