I recommend the Stew Mac glue pot. It's automatically set for 145-150F so you can't overheat the wax.  
 
About 3 to 1 parafin to beeswax does the trick for me. And a 7-minute limit seems to be just right for stopping feedback WITHOUT stopping tone...
