Chances are somebody here already did this and posted about it, but I looked up the patent on the LD assymetricals a few weeks ago. By my read, it's pretty narrowly defined and doesn't cover just any old assymetrical humbucker. It has to be both...  
 
1) ...a different wire gauge on each coil (e.g., slug coil #43 wire, screw coil #42), AND;  
 
2) Have "sustantially the same number of turns" on the two coils, which I interpret to mean that if the difference in the number of turns on your assymetrical bucker is 300, you're safe -- but if the difference is 3, you're in violation of the patent.
