It makes sense that Fender would try to use something suited to the application, and something they already had lying around. I've read a few threads on other boards from people unhappy with their mando bird (epiphone) pickups, and that p-bass pickups are an easy drop-in improvement. My quest is for a fatter sound. I know humbuckers would do it, but somehow Tiny Moore did it with single coils on his Bigsby. My mighty-mite was designed as a "screamer" of a bass pickup, and the midrange is very punchy. The e string is a little thin sounding.
