Or you could wind a Strat pup to around 7.5k, and add a ferrous plate to the back, then put a bit of steel plate under the pickguard. With a hardtail, this may get you close to Tele-land with a Strat. That would be a fun experiment.  
 
My girlfriend in the eighties had a Lead II, it was quite a guitar. Very nice.  
 
Also, after 24 years of playing Gibsons, PRS and the occasional Strat, I got my first Tele a year ago. Put two Strat Texas Specials in the neck and middle, and an overwound Tele pup in the bridge. I hardly ever play anything else now. The Tele bridge pickup sound is a beautiful, beautiful thing indeed.
