By the time you hit around 16,000 (16,535 being a magic number) you can hang explorer (your desktop). I know it doesn't help you, but here in Firefox land, I can open yahoo mail in about a second. If Yahoo had a week of system issues, it would be covered by every news outlet in town. I would check your PC first. jm2c, ymmv, etc etc etc.
