    I've done that on some of my guitars since it was recommended by guitarnuts. I believe it is called the "Keith Relf" mod- he was the singer with the Yardbirds who got electrocuted. :( But I do think that the underlying electrical problems should be resolved (you can still get a shock if you touch the metal barrel on the plug).
