(i don't even know what the switches are supposed to do, but there are four possible settings, two of which make the whole thing go dead.) i need to replace the pots- they don't do much, and the jack- it doesn't make a good connection, i also need to shield the whole thing. i'm still trying to locate schematics, even looking at bass schematics. i have lots of time to sit around at home working on it, what with not being able to afford the gas to go anywhere at all... i'm already pretty much against the current v/v/t setup. i think i'm going to change the jack and pots and shield it first, then go over the solder connections to make sure there aren't any shorts or open spots to explain the dead settings. if that doesn't work wonders, i'll try rewiring the controls for v/t/t.
