Is yours a rosewood board and the squier a maple? I always notice maple boards for whatever reason have a lighter tension. Also, the bridge believe it or not makes a difference. Alloy blocks don't sound as good, but i noticed when i put a steel block on a strat the tone improved, but the string tension increased ! Can't figure out why because both blocks had recessed string holes. lucky for me i actually wanted more tebsion. :) But thats another thing you could look at. Also, is the squier trem floating and your's not? that would account for it too.
