Think Bruce has a great point about the circuit itself though.... when you think about it, a tranny isn't gonna perform with the desirable ( or at least expected ) "guitar amp" characteristics if it isn't used in a circuit that is ( to an extent anyway )designed for it. The design parameters of the tranny and how it's utilized probably play a big role in that too...I don't know that a pair of 6L6's thru a 15k primary is gonna sound like some guitarists might think it should, so how it's used is most likely going to have a big influence on everything.
