This amp appears to work like that RG, the bias supply is cap coupled off the FWB and the standby switch is before the bridge.  
 
I've been talking to John offline and now that he's up and running I think he should probably try to reduce the turn on stress the power transformer is seeing by moving the standby switch to the other side of the bridge. Does anybody see a problem with that move? A fuse to protect that winding would be a good idea too IMO. It's still unclear what killed his old transformer. When did it die John?
