I finally junked them both, however before I stopped punishing myself with them....All of the probs you mentioned were a way of life with these amps. Also check the OT(not just DC resistance) they have super cheesy OTs that can exhibit some really weird problems including internal arcing....especially with the class B design and the ridiculous high voltages on the plates. Back when the amps were shipping with Phillips 6CA7s the 750 volts on the plates was not as much of a problem....but the 6L6GC amps constantly fail.... Best of Luck to you.
