12au7 for 12ax7 in X100B

Craig	12au7 for 12ax7 in X100B So playing with the idea of getting a much less distorted sound from a Carvin X100B, can one replace v1 with a 12au7? Do all preamp tubes need to match? Tried it, sounded very cool, then blew the fuse after an hour or so. This amp blows a fair number of fuses anyway, so I don't know if this is related. I am a moron about all this, though I have been reading, haven't found anything specific on this question. Your thoughts appreciated Craig
