5e3 clone. started stock with origional layout. and i had this problem from day one. i thought maybe it just needed some circuit tweaks.

tried sevearl values for all cathode bypass caps and resistors (from 750 to 3k3).

lowered all coupling caps to .047

tried different power tubes (EH to JJ)

several diff pre tubes

tried diff rect tube (5y3 to 5v4)

tried diff bias R's to compensate for rect

tried lowering B+ with dropping R's from PT center tap

checked all connections except under board.

diff speaker (from jensen c12p to gh30)

all these seem to help alittle but can't get rid of it. the amp has no hum and is dead quite, sounds great clean, this sound is clearest when transitioning to overdrive.

is this what 5e3's sound like?
