here's an example of an amp where the tube heaters functioned as the cathode bias resistor:
I would recommend you just get a 6.3V auxiliary transformer if you need extra fil power.
You could try playing with the LM317 or it's low drop out friend (forgot it's number). they're easy to use and handle alot of power (esp the bigger TO3 LM338). You could also just rectify (and filter w/ a 1000 or 2200 uF cap) the 6.3V line and use the appropriate dropping resistor to get 6.3V at the tube.
