| Justin Thomas | Re: 7591-A verses 6L6 types I had a 65 Reverberocket 2 with 7591s that I switched over to 6l6s. That was it-no other mods. The amp certainly sounded "jazzier" with the 7591s. A little more low and mid punch, slightly fatter rythm sound for comping, just a wee bit more "oomph." With the 6l6s, obviously the opposite was true, probably had what I would call a better straight rythm sound, more open, less "boxy" sounding. None of the differences were HUGE, though. If I ever get another one I'll probably keep one for each type of tube, just different flavors. By the way, I prefer the NOS 7591's. I tried the EH's when they came out- VERY 6L6 sounding. I think the main reason for these coming to market was simply as a cheap substitute for the $140 a pair that NOS 7591's bring in. Justin. |
