Randy	Update Update: I found some 12Au7s that were of lower gain than what I had, and these calmed the amp significantly and made it quite usable. Got Bruce's mod but haven't installed it yet; probably will after I futz a bit more with the amp. I've gotten to the point where I can listen to an amp and think to myself, "What can I do to make this sound the way I want?" That usually involves selecting the right mic from the ones I have, calming the pre-amp with lower-gain tubes and getting the right "flavor" of power amp tubes. Only after that do I consider a different speaker or think about going into the guts of the amp. Interestingly, while taste-testing pre-amp tubes, I blew out a new JJ 6v6 (my own stupid fault for turning stuff on-off too much and too quickly with new tubes...ye olde infant mortality). This, in turn, kicked out the fuse after a few seconds...BUT when I removed the fuse I found it was a 3 amp slow-blow, not a 2 amp. I was not amused! Fortunately everything survived except the blow power tube. THAT really pissed me off, though.
