Re: 5e3 start-up bad distortion Hi Jamie -   What you describe is incorrect. There are three wires on the power transformer, two green and one that is green with a yellow stripe. The two green wires should be going to the heaters of the tubes and the jewel lamp. The green wire with the yellow stripe should be tied to ground. It sounds to me like you have the wrong wire tied to ground.         Keith
