Howard	Something else to try I don't know if this is your problem, but I was geting a similar mechanical sounding noise. After tapping around with a pencil, I found I got the same noise by tapping on the shield of the 1'st preamp tube. I pulled and re-seated the tube, and while replacing the shield cover, noticed that the retainer spring was not really all that tight. I pulled the spring out and stretched it so that it held the tube tighter against the socket. The sound went away. Hope this helps. Howard
