| Artie | Re: The reality of "invention" I would like to comment on a couple things here. There's a good explanation of this "intellectual property" thing over at the Seymour Duncan forum by Evan Skopp. (VP of SD) But to paraphrase, in brief: Just coming up with an "idea" isn't necessarily patentable. If you take an idea to a manufactuerer, and ask them to design and build it,they did, after all, design and build it. If you go to a company like SD and have them design and build a cutom pickup, and then charge you an "ordinary" custom charge, you've only purchased that one pickup. Take that same idea, have them design and build the pickup, and then tell them, "you can't make these for anyone else but me" and see what the charge is now. It WON'T be $160. Like I said, Evan said it better than me, but I think you get my point. Having a company build you a custom "line" of products, is not the same as having them custom build you one product. Artie |
