I found that I had to mount them at 90 degrees to the bobbin at and angled downwards. In this way the wire flailed off the spool like fishing line of a fixed spool fishing reel. With even small spools of wire you have to mount the wire on a spindle and let it rotate as the wire comes off. The best thing though is to buy a big spool. These are best left standing on the floor and the wire just comes off so easy it's a dream.
