Re: Kent Armstrong pick-ups
Didn't judge the sound of the pickup from the way it looked. But I know that Kent Armstrong was supposed to have wound this pickup himself. I have had lengthy conversations with Kent when he lived here in the UK and I can't think of a nicer guy to talk to. But I will just say again that a handwound job for a music Juorno ought to be of the highest standard or you're gonna leave yourself open for some harm. Oh, and by the way, this Journo has had an interview with Jason Lollar (apart from me who knows relatively little compared) who he is most in awe of, and it's obvious that "Journo" knows his stuff.
That's why the rewind I did for him on the previously Kent-rewound '62 Strat bobbin had to be good even down to the correct application of dust where dust would normally be found under a Strat bobbin cover!
PS. I would never judge a pickup until I'd heared it in action.
I have used and heared other's Sky pickups which are Kent's Korean brand. A friend of mine swore by his single coil sized side-by-side humbucker. It suited him down to the ground at a time when he was still learning about guitars. Since then I reconfigured his guitar with my single coils which have opened his eyes to a new tone. In time he may not like these anymore. It's up to the individual.
Personally, I'm not satisfied with the Armstrongs that I had some of which he wound personally for me.
