carloRe: Irony, anonymity, and civility
funny... when i see anonymous attached as a handle i immediately think this is someone who's saying something that they're not proud to say. and even stranger, i attribute each and every anonymous post to one (fictitious) character who happens to be named 'anonymous'. truth be told, i don't like anonymous, he's usually rude and childish. in fact, i'm quite prejudiced against anonymous. once in awhile he says something funny, but it might be funnier if i knew who actually said it.

from my point of view, i think the benefits of registration outweigh the drawbacks. of course registration might present alot of extra work for tboy. i don't know.

also think we shouldn't confuse having an online handle/personality with our legal birthname. i'm not interested in knowing how old a poster is, or his/her sex or skin color, where they live...etc. none of that is necessary. i just want to know who i'm talking to as it relates to the bbs.

so in a sense, i'm somewhere in the middle. although i feel that using a real name and registration would offer maximum self control; i think simply having a consistent, identifiable handle, along with registration, would eliminate most of the bs.

i'm honestly not sure what benefit is gained by not having registration. visitors' ip's are already displayed for all to see. i know more about people like Joe/speed than i need to. ;-) the free-for-all only seems to benefit the jokers/flamers.

great board either way, but i'm one of the people that got tired of filtering through the pointless flame type opinions, many of which don't even relate to amps.

one of the things that draws me back is the people that i've come to know as well as the wealth of knowledge they provide. so i'll admit non-registration can work. i just believe registration would improve things by reducing the bs factor.
